We are off to a great start this school year at North Linden Elementary. Your children have been working very hard in the fourth grade. As you likely know by now, we use Google Apps for Education daily in our class. The App in which I post assignments for the students is called Google Classroom. I’ll be sending you an email to invite you to receive GUARDIAN EMAIL SUMMARIES for our Google Classroom. If you accept the the invitation, you can opt to choose Weekly or Daily Summaries which will show you your child’s assignments. With Google Classroom, I can assign work to the students digitally, without paper. They can do it from school (or home, if they don’t quite finish something). They can submit it to me online, and I can pass it back to them with comments, edits, suggestions, and/or grades. Google Classroom is accessible from any device with internet access. Your child knows how to sign in with their account. Your child's sign is their studentid@columbus.k12.oh.us and their password is, child’s birthdate with dashes (ex: 09-24-2006). As a parent, you can login and see what assignments have been sent to your child, whether your child has completed them, and how they did.
In addition to using Google Classroom this year, we are also using a Language Arts tool called IXL. Like Google Classroom this too is accessible from any device with internet access. Student should be working on IXL every night for at least ten minutes. This program allows your child to learn at their own pace and allows your child to practice skills taught in class. I have already sent a note home with your child about the program with your student's login and password. However, if you need another copy please feel free to contact me.
Along with our online learning, students are also expected to be reading at home every night for at least 20 minutes and then respond about their reading on our weekly reading log. Reading logs go out every Monday and are to be returned the following Monday. Student’s get extra brag tags when their reading log is signed by their parents. Finally, students also have a weekly spelling test every Friday. Students should be bringing home their spelling words on Monday’s.
If you have any questions about any of the information provided in the summary, please email me at aallan@columbus.k12.oh.us, you can also leave a comment on this blog site. I hope you’ll encourage your son or daughter to use Google Classroom and IXL regularly. Here’s to a year of working together to make learning fun for your child!
Sincerely,
Amy Allan
